World Slowed Down

1. The World Slowed
Down Today

The world slowed down today.
All the people locked away.
And we watched our children play.
When the world slowed down today.
All the towns shut down this week.
Shops abandoned; streets turned bleak.
A global cry to slow this peak.
One common goal that we all seek.

Hospitals too full,
but they still play their role.
Help every one.
Cannot save them all.
The weight of it makes them fall down but
They did not run.

Our smoggy skies were fresh and clear.
Will the history books all hear
That we showed kindness, courage or fear
When the world slowed down this year?
Our whole world slowed down to day.
We can put our quarrels away.
Will we remember how to pray?
That we may see a brighter day.
That we may see a better day.

2. Dancing on the Sea

Last night I had a dream
That you came to dance with me
You were floating out on the misty sea
When I heard you sing this song to me

Just reach out across the waves to find me
The ocean is not too wide (be by my side)
These waters can be our home
On the shore you dance alone

You and I were floating across the sea
Last night when you came to dance with me
With one song I know we could be set free
If you’ll only come and dance with me

I’ll swim out across the waves to reach you
No ocean could be too wide (be by your side)
This dry land has been my home
But on shore I dance alone

We’re dancing across the sea together
We’re spinning through misty air
I’ll swim out across the waves to reach you (be by your side)
The ocean is not too wide (I’ll find you there)
This dry land has been my home
but I danced on the sea
Last night when you danced with me

3. Days Go By

Time is a thief
False relief
This distance from you
Days cannot heal
While they steal
Me further from you

Clouds shift in the sky
They drift and change like you and I
Strange kind of cure that we should try
To let love die
As days go by
Rainbows pale and fade
Lost like our shadows in the shade
Could we have lasted if we stayed?
I’ll always miss you and I
Watching the days go by

We shared a dance
Missed our chance
To last forever
Days still go by
But they lie
How can I heal
When I feel
Only far from you?

Shadows in the shade
Even the rainbows pale and fade
Would it be different if we stayed?
Beautiful things
Sometimes decay
Can’t last forever
Faded, forced apart…
Would you have lasted in my heart?
Hollow relief that I must start
To let love die now as I’m
Watching the days go by
And while I miss you and I
Too many days go by

Time is a thief
Steals my grief
With distance from you
Strange way to heal
Hollow still
I know this void can’t stay forever so I’m
Watching the days go by

Can’t last forever so I’m
Watching the days go by

4. When You Sing

When you sing
The world goes silent
When you sing
Lost things are found
And there’s no other sound
When you sing

When you play
We’re all there with you
When you play
The noise is gone
And there’s no other sound
But your song

And when you’re silent
The void is loud
Just empty echoes
Throughout the crowd
Cause when you’re silent
The music’s wrong
We’ll always be here
For your next song
Have you seen
The light you bring
When you sing?

We all go silent
When you play
The noise is gone
And there’s no other sound
All the lost things are found
And you cure what is wrong
With your song

You can cure anything
When you sing

5. Land of the Free

Say did you see
Your brother bleeding
On his knees
Begging please
Begging please?
Say can you hear
Your sister’s fear
As she fights
For her rights
Every day

Could it be true
Those who wear blue
Still risk their lives
To fight for me
And fight for you
And here we stand
On stolen land
I’ll take the blame
I’ll share the shame
When when our homeland truly be
Land of the free?

We’ve come this far
And yet here we are far from shore
Don’t look away
No can’t turn away anymore

And did I think
You’re just like me?
We’re not the same
We couldn’t be
Shouldn’t be
Different is strong
We can belong here
This hope of haven can’t be gone
Maybe one day we’ll all agree
How to be free

Oh say can you see
That this land of the free
Is not the same land for all
That we know it should be

Injustice fall
When we stand tall
Or we drop
To our knees
Hate has grown old
Let love be bold
Say can you see
That your life matters to me

6. Oakhurst
(Come Home To You)

Dust flies in our hair
Dry dirt is everywhere
Can’t stay clean in this country air
As the landscape fills my rearview
I’ll miss you
I love you

Where all the
Lights melt away
Leaving stars for miles around
No sound
To disturb this peace we’ve found
I’ll be there
Yes I’m coming soon
Coming home to you

Crickets sing at night
Then butterflies take flight
Through apple trees and joy and light
Always seems it’s Oakhurst in my rearview
I miss you
I love you
As slowly

You fade away
Maybe someday I can stay
You’re there
Left my heart three hours away
I’ll drive this distance just to say
I’ve come home to you

To you
Where the stars are oceans deep
We sleep
With the scent of mountain air
And I swear
That I’m coming soon
Coming home to you

I miss the walnut tree
The hill where I feel free
But mostly I miss you with me
Oakhurst in my rearview
I miss you
I’ll always
Come home to you

7. Heartbeat

I feel your heart beat
With mine
I hear our hearts beat
In time
I hear your heart
I hear your heart
And every beat
Whispers you’re mine

My heart beats with yours
Alone
No rhythm like this
I’ve known
I feel two hearts
beating as one
I will not run
For I am home

I feel your heart beat
With mine
I hear our heartbeats
Align
I feel two hearts
Melt into one
I will not run
For I am home

I hear your heart
I feel your heart
I feel your heart
It feels like home

8. Ash and Orange

So are your wings weighed down
beneath this ash?
This ash-filled sky
Our burning sky
This orange sky

Wings were meant to fly
Where are the angels?
Are they all broken?

Wonder if angels still fly
Can heavy wings lift them high
Above the ash if they try
beyond our dark, burning sky?
Wonder if angels still fly

Or do they cry?
like you and I
beneath this sky
of ash and orange
Do they still fly?

Where are the angels?
Wonder if angels still fly
Can heavy wings lift them high?
Through ash and orange

Or do they cry?
Beneath this sky
Are they all grounded?

Can wings so weighed down still
escape this sky?

If you’re not all broken
come lift us high
